Prepare Your Kids to Travel in Plane

Planes and flights can be very tiresome for everyone. If we notice, they are probably the most tiring part of any trip. And when you have kids to travel with you, the whole flight thing becomes more hectic. This is mostly because of the incomplete preparations that we don’t even notice.

Everyone likes a family vacation to a beautiful island or maybe to the countryside or the mountains. But if you are going somewhere on a plane, you have some more things to consider besides just packing. Children are moody, make sure to consider your kid’s likes and dislikes while you pack.

Book a separate seat for your kid as things can get very congested. Your kid will be more comfortable in his own seat. Besides this, while booking the tickets; make very sure that you book adjacent seats. That will make it easy to look after your child. Take advantage of the “board first before time” facility that is offered. This will help to make sure your child takes his time to get comfortable. However, some of the flights don’t offer this. In this case, you should board last as your child can get irritated seeing so many people.

After that, train them for the flight in different ways. I’ve listed some of them here for you.

8 Things to Prepare Your Child for Flights

Here are some tips to train your kid to travel on a plane for his very first flight. Practicing these will surely make your flight stress-free and fun.

1. Practice the Whole Procedure

Make your children play with you. This is probably the easiest way to make them practice the things that are going to happen on the plane. You can make a play on “life during flight” or “things that happen in a plane.” Make them practice as much as you can. Make them the pilot and play as an assistant pilot or air hostess. Tell them about all the things that happen there.

2. Tell Them about Do’s And Don’ts

Tell them about what is allowed and what is not. You can also construct all of this in a play. Tell them to be prepared and make a list about that. You should teach them to not cry or scream or kick the chairs in front of them as these things disturb other passengers. Tell them to keep on their seat belts.

3. Make Them Run Before Flight

Another very important thing is to prepare them for all the tight seatbelts that are going to be around them for the next few hours. You can practice running before your flight. Just before you all board, make your kid run at the airport. It’ll burn all the extra energy and they’ll not feel any suffocation or nausea being in their seats.

4. Keep in Mind Their Comfort

Your kid’s comfort is above everything. Dress them up in the comfiest clothes. Ask them what they’d like to eat during the flight. Don’t depend on the conventional flight menus as your child may or may not like it. Give your toddler a travel bag and tell them to pack everything they’d like to eat and all the toys they’ll like to play with.

Also, your little child will not be able to fit in the plane seats that well. He will probably not feel safe and comfortable with them. You should be properly prepared. Take a Harness Booster car seat with you along with your stroller. You are gonna thank me later for this.

5. Make Sure They Don’t Fall Ill

Kids become very cranky and irritated when they are ill. As flights are already very hectic, it’ll be very difficult for you to handle a sick child. Take extra care of your kid before your flight. Feed them the right things and take extra precautions. Also, keep with you some pills and medicines for any emergency. Take care of their cleanliness before and during the flight as they are exposed to a lot of germs.

6. Teach Breathing Exercises

Teach your toddlers some breathing exercises when flying or taking off. Practice these with them a few times. Tell them to inhale slowly then pinch their nose from the front. Now, make them exhale while keeping their mouth closed. This is a very good trick to relieve ear pain during flight.

7. Plan Some Fun Activities with Them

Children cannot sit idle for a long time. So, plan some fun things and activities to do on the plane. Take books with you and tablets or iPods for them to enjoy the long flight. You can also plan games and make them do some creative work. Take their coloring books and pencil colors. They can also write about what happened as they entered the airport in their diary. Moreover, they can take their scrape book with them and do fun things.

8. Create Positive Vibes

Keep in mind that you don’t pressurize your children in any way or take stress yourself. Stay very calm and don’t lose your patience with your kids. Have positive energy and act in front of your kids that this is nothing to worry about. Everything will go on very smoothly.

9. Set Proper Nap-Time Environment

The timing of your flight matters a lot. Consider your child’s sleep timings and book a flight according to it. You can never expect your kid to fall asleep just by saying that you’ll be beside them. The environment of the flight is very new for them. So, make them change into a comfy night suit and pack their favorite stuffed toys. Give them their toys as you have already taken off, they’ll fall asleep easily.

Conclusion

Traveling with kids is a hectic thing especially when you have to travel on a plane with them. However, holding on to some basic things and making them all prepared before can help a lot. This guide is going to help you with all your problems.
