Packing for a Cruise: This Is Everything to Bring

Did you know that 8 out of 10 U.S. travelers are looking forward to traveling in the next 12 months?

For some travelers, that means they’re ready to board a cruise ship and take to the high waters! However, cruises, whether they’re a week or a month-long, require a little bit of special packing.

But if it’s your first time going on a cruise, how do you figure out what to bring along? And is packing for a cruise really all that different from packing beach essentials?

We’re here to fill you in. Keep reading below to learn the basics of how to pack for a cruise!

Cabin Essentials

Most ship cabins will be stocked with some essentials, but you’ll want to bring a few extra items to stay comfortable. One of the most important things to pack is a portable fan because cabins can get stuffy and warm.

It’s also wise to bring an electrical outlet adapter, as ship cabins often don’t have much outlet space. Just be sure any adapter you bring doesn’t have a surge protector.

With that extra outlet space secured, you can bring other cabin essentials, such as a night light or hair styling appliances. You’ll also have space for any phone or laptop chargers.

These are some things to know that generally apply to ship cabins. However, it’s always good to read about what your unique cabin provides before your trip—don’t be shy to contact the cruise agency if you have questions!

Lesser-Known Apparel

While t-shirts and shorts are obvious additions, there are some extra clothing pieces you should pack. Perhaps the most important is non-slip flip-flops or sandals.

The ship decks are often wet, and shoes without tread can be dangerous. Mesh water shoes are also essential if you plan on walking any coastlines or exploring reefs on foot.

Make sure to bring a hat or two—the wider the brim, the better! Like any tropical vacation, a hat will protect you from the sun. However, it’s doubly important when you’re out at sea, as the water will reflect the harsh sun.

Miscellaneous Items

So, you’ve packed all your clothing and cabin necessities. But is there anything else you’ll want on the ship?

Well, when packing for a cruise, it’s important to always bring motion-sickness medication. Even if you aren’t usually affected by motion sickness, it’s good to have some on hand just in case the water becomes especially choppy.

Every seasoned cruiser will also recommend bringing a waterproof phone sleeve or case. This will also you to continue to use your phone’s touch screen without the fear of getting water or sand on it.

Smoothly Start Packing for a Cruise
