3 Types of Pets That Are Fun and Unique

When it comes to pet ownership, does your personality not quite match that of a cat or dog? More and more people are adopting exotic pets in the United States. While we don’t advise you to become the next Tiger King, owning these types of pets is an exciting and rewarding experience.

Before you bring anything into your home, you want to do your research. You want to think about things like how much space you’ll need, if you have children, how much time you’ll have to care for them, and the cost.

We bet you have more questions than answers right now. If you need help deciding on which pet is for you and your family, swing on down to our blog post below to get started.

1. Turtles

Of all the types of pet turtles to choose from, we recommend the most popular, red ear sliders. They are widely available and are friendlier and more social than their relatives.

Most will want to keep theirs indoors with the proper shelter, cleaning, water filtration system, and UV lighting. They will also love an outdoor pond as they grow bigger and mature to around 12 inches long

These types of pets have a life expectancy of 20-30 years and are generally on the more expensive side with their dietary needs.

2. Hamsters

When searching for types of pets for your home, hamsters make a great choice as they are easy to maintain. You don’t need much to get started—only a 2-cubic-feet cage with an exercise wheel, bedding, food, water, and some things to chew on.

We recommend the most popular hamster breed—the Syrian hamster. These guys will be easier to handle since they are larger and slower. You will love how friendly and cute they are in their gold color. These types of pets will live up to 2 and 4 years.

If you live in an apartment that doesn’t allow certain types of pets, most will allow for hamsters. They are clean, quiet, and don’t even shed. The only thing you’ll have to do now is choose a name for a hamster.

3. Frogs

Pet frogs make an excellent pet, especially if you don’t have much space. These types of pets will require a 10-20 gallon tank. You will be pleased to know that they are low maintenance and only need to be fed a few times per week.

You have your options from aquatic to semi-aquatic, tree, and sedentary frogs. They range from 1-13 inches in length and 1oz-6 pounds. Some frogs even sing but they won’t be too loud for your roommates or neighbors.
